My son is a big sports fan and plays T-ball. In keeping with his interests, I am in the process of decorating his room. He picked out bedding which has a baseball, soccer, basketball and football on it. I agreed figuring this should last him for a while. If he picks up a new sport, it will probably be one of those four. I did not want to spend a lot of money on wall art for his room. While shopping for birthday cards I came up with a solution. I found birthday cards that looked like a football and baseball. I decided why not try decorating a boy’s room with Birthday cards. I have tried to find a card in the shape of a basketball and/or soccer ball. When I find it, I’ll swap out one of the baseballs.
Here’s what I used:
2 baseball cards
1 football card
Construction paper – I picked blue and brown to go with his room.
Tape
Frames – I happened to have 8×10 frames already at home.
Here’s what I did:
I cut the construction paper to fit inside the frame.
I taped the back of the card to the center of the construction paper. I turned the cards on an angle.
I placed the construction paper with the card attached inside the frame.
Then I hang them on the wall.
Options:
You can use any type of card. I have seen cards in the shape of flowers which I though would look nice in a girl’s room. You could also put the framed card on a table top or on a ledge. Another thought I had was to use scrap booking paper instead of construction paper behind the card. The options are endless and depend on the look you are going for. There are many other craft projects you can do with greeting cards.
I recently learned that St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital will recycle old greeting cards. Check out more information about the program here.
As you can see from the photo, I still have another wall to decorate. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.

What a clever idea, and the art matches the room perfectly. Great job! This is my first time to your great site. Thanks for sharing this week at One Creative Weekend! I liked you on Facebook.

Oooh, this is a great way to use cards. Also, if you’re looking for a specific sports ball, you could try searching in google images; I’ve found lots of stuff there to use in my own home. Isn’t decorating a room so fun? I love it.

Cute idea and a cheap way to decorate!
Thank you!
That is such a clever idea. I love the look. I am sure he really likes it. Cute room. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
Thank you.
Love the room theme! I have been looking for some sport type art for our little boys room to no luck so this is a great idea, thanks for sharing. We bought our son a Football Jersey when he was born (in dads favourite team of course;) i bought a ‘nice’ coat hanger ( you could use a timber one or a material covered one) and hung the Jersey on a picture hook on the wall. It looks cute and everyone always comments…. or even one of dads old ones might be cute too

Thanks for the lovely comment. FYI- I found the football card at Target. I had not thought to put his baseball jerseys on the wall. That’s a great idea. THANKS!!!!

What a great idea and a perfect way to use some of those cards that I hate to throw away. I have a perfect cousin card from your mother-in-law that I used like that years ago.
Hi Ellen, What a great way to save those memories. I will ask her if she remembers the card.
Thanks for stopping by~
